The Guide to Finding Your Perfect Ring Size

When looking to get a ring, whether it’s for yourself or as a gift for someone, the first thing that you have to know is the size of the ring before looking at other things such as price, weight/carats, style, as well as the purity of the gold. It is important to know the ring size to ensure that it fits perfectly.

Below is our guide to finding the right ring size and can be a benchmark for choosing one for someone else too:

1. Knowing the Different Types of Sizes

Usually rings worn in Indonesia are between the sizes 8-18, these are the sizes you have to know prior to buying a ring whether offline or online.

The table below can make it easier for you to find the right ring size that is used in jewelry stores in Indonesia. Once you have known the sizes using the table below, all you need to do is mention your size or the size of the person you’re buying the ring for to the store or select the size online.

9 51 15
10 52 15,4
11 53 15,8
12 54 16
13 55 16,3
14 56 16,7
15 57 17,1

2. Measuring the Diameter of Your Ring Finger

There are several ways to measure the diameter of your the finger you’d like to use the ring on. Whether its to buy for yourself or to give to others, convert between different standard ring sizes online or in-store.

Below are several methods to measure the diameter of your finger:

a. Get yourself measured in a jewelry store

This method is easiest to do when you are looking to buy a ring for yourself in-store. This method is the most fool proof way of determining your ring size. However, this method is not the most suitable if you are looking to purchase the ring as a gift.

b. Measuring using a string or paper

Even though a yarn or string is the primary item used to measure your finger, you would need more than just the string. Do not fret though, the other items needed are available in most households. Other than a string, you would need a marker, pencil, or pen, scissors, and a ruler.

When your tools are ready, follow the methods below:

  • Put the string around your finger
  • Mark the string with a marker/pencil/pen
  • Measure the length of the string using a ruler
  • Refer to the table above to find the right size for you

Other than using a string, you can also paper with the same method above. Prepare a 1cmx10cm sized paper, then proceed to measure your finger using the same methods above. This method is however, also not very suitable for choosing a size for someone else.

c. Using a measuring tape

A very easy way to get the diameter of your finger is using a measuring tape often used by tailors to measure bodies or fabrics. The way to measure it is really easy. All you need to do is measure your finger using the measuring tape and note down the size using the table above. This method is also not suitable when choosing a size for someone else.

d. Guessing your size by stature

Stature is often looked at from height and weight of a person. This method is the most suitable if you are looking to buy a ring as a gift for someone else.

If you choose to consult to the jewelry store before purchasing the ring, they would usually be able to give you an estimate based on the person’s stature and physique. The downside of this method is because it is an estimate, it is hard to be accurate with the sizing compared to the other methods mentioned above.

That sums up our guide to finding the ideal ring size for you or someone you’re looking to buy a ring for. As a side note, before purchasing the ring, make sure to leave a little bit of space so that the ring is not too small and make it difficult for you to take the ring off. Also make sure that you are measuring the finger on the exact finger that you are looking to wear your ring on. This is because ring sizes for your left and right hands may differ. To be even more sure, measure your finger again on the day you are about to purchase the ring. It is recommended that you don’t measure your finger when you are ill as it may differ from when you are well.
