1. Position Your Body Better
Maybe you never realise it before, how you sit can affect your sight. When sitting, make sure your feet step flatly on the floor. Instead of leaning your hand on top of the table, it’s better to position both of your wrists slightly higher than the keyboard. Don’t forget to position your monitor perfectly below your eyesight, not align.
Furthermore, sit with an upright posture. If you’re slouching above the keyboard, it will cause strained back and shoulder muscle which can limit blood flow to the eye.
2. Use Proper Room Lighting
Room lighting that is too dark or too bright can contribute to the causes of eye strain and headache. To adjust the room lighting, you can also adjust your monitor display brightness making it not too dark or too bright.
3. Maximize Font Sizing
If you often squint your eyes when trying to read texts on the screen, you can bring up your font size. This is for reducing stress on your eyes and preventing unnecessary muscle strain. If possible, you can also change your monitor to a bigger one for more comfortable eyesight.
4. Blink More Often
If you spend most of your time in front of a computer, always make sure to blink more frequently. Because blinking can produce moisture and is necessary for the eye to rejuvenate itself.
Normally, every person blinks 15 times every minute, but the frequency of blinking becomes lesser than five or seven times when staring at a screen. Even though non-blinking phases can cause dryness, irritation, losing focus, unpleasant feelings on the eye which can contribute to lower eye efficiency.
5. Take Frequent Breaks
Besides staring into the computer screen for a long period of time, your eyes also need to take frequent breaks. Eye doctors call it the”20-20-20 rule”, by looking away from your computer at least every 20 minutes and gazing at a distant object (at least 20 feet away) for at least 20 seconds.
Or you can back off from the screen for a few minutes because when you do this your eyes will naturally blink more frequently and the muscles around your eyes have more chances to relax and rehydrate themself.
